One of the very special, loyal and devoted companions of the beloved Prophet of Islam (s.a.w), is Simak bin Kharasha, Abu Dujana Ansari.
Imam Sadiq (a.s.) said: “In the battle of Uhud, the companions of the Messenger of God fled until no one remained with them except Amir al-Mu’minin Ali bin Abi Talib (a.s.) and Abu Dujana.
Abu Dujana Proves His Loyalty
The Prophet said to Abu Dujana: Do you see what your companions and fellow citizens are doing?
He answered: Yes
The Prophet said: You join them too!
He replied: I have not taken the pledge of allegiance to God to act like this.
The Prophet said: Allegiance has been taken from you and you’re free to go!
He answered: The people of Quraysh will never say that I left you and ran away. I will stand and taste everything that happens to you.
Then the Prophet asked Allah for good for him.”
From this hadith, it is clear how steadfast Abu Dujana was in the way of the Messenger of God.
“La Fata Illa Ali (a.s.)”
The continuation of this hadith is very famous and it is worth mentioning:
Hazrat Ali (a.s.) and Abu Dujana Ansari fought so much that they repelled any group that attacked the Prophet, and the war and injuries increased. During the fight, the sword of Ali (a.s.) broke and he went to the Prophet and said: A man is fighting with his sword and my sword is broken.
The Prophet gave them his own sword, Zulfiqar, and they defended the Prophet (s.a.w) with that sword until the enemy was totally repelled.
Then angel Gabriel descended down to the Prophet and said: This sacrifice and gallantry of Ali (a.s.) is muwasaat for you.
The Prophet said: Ali is from me and I am from Ali. Gabriel said: And I am from you.
Then they heard a calling from the sky: “There is no sword but Zulfiqar and no hero but Ali.”
