Who is Abu Dujana?
Abu Dujana al-Ansari, known as Simak ibn Kharasha, was a devoted companion of the Prophet Muhammad (S). During the Battle of Uhud, when most companions fled, only he and Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.) stayed with the Prophet. When asked to join the others, Abu Dujana replied, “The people of Quraysh will never say that I left you and fled. I will stand until I see what happens to you.”
His steadfastness is highlighted by his fierce defense alongside Ali (a.s.), especially when Ali’s sword broke and the Prophet gave him Dhul-Fiqar to continue fighting. Gabriel descended upon the Prophet and said: “This act and sacrifice of Ali (a.s.) is a form of solidarity with you.” The Prophet (S) replied, “Ali is from me, and I am from Ali.” Gabriel said: “I am also from you two.” Then they heard a caller from the heavens proclaiming: “There is no sword but Dhul-Fiqar, and there is no knight but Ali!”

His loyalty earned him a unique role in Islamic history, including receiving a powerful amulet known as the “Hirz of Abu Dujana”.
The Story of the Hirz of Abu Dujana
It is narrated as follows: Abu Dujana once complained to the Prophet (S) about a strange creature he encountered at night. Then, the Prophet (S) instructed Ali (a.s.) to write an amulet for Abu Dujana and other people in the community who feared afflictions and disturbances. Ali (a.s.) asked the Prophet (S) what to write, and the Prophet dictated the amulet [of Abu Dujana].
Authenticity of Hirz Abu Dujana
At the beginning of the nineteenth narration in The Book of Remembrance and Supplication, in the thirty-eighth section titled The Amulets of the Prophet and His Pure Wives, Allameh Majlisi (may God have mercy on him) mentioned the well-known amulet of Abu Dajana in the esteemed book Bihar al-Anwar. This amulet, narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and seen by Allameh in certain books, is famous for its use in repelling jinn and magic.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم الحمد لله الذی خلق السماوات و الارض و جعل الظلمات و النور ثم الذین کفروا بربهم یعدلون هذا کتاب من محمد رسول الله العربی الهاشمی المکی المدنی الابطحی الامی صاحب التاج و الهراوة و القضیب و الناقة صاحب قول لا اله الا الله الی من طرق الدار الا طارقا یطرق بخیر اما بعد فان لنا و لکم فی الحق سعة فان لم یکن طارقا مولعا او داعیا مبطلا او مؤذیا مقتصما فاترکوا حملة القرآن و
“In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to God who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light. Then those who disbelieve in their Lord equate (others with Him), this is a book from Muhammad, the Messenger of God, the Arab, the Hashimi, the Meccan, the Medinan, the one from Al-Abtah, the unlettered, the one with the crown, the mace, the staff, and the camel. The one who says: There is no god but Allah to anyone who approaches the house, except for the one who comes with goodness. Now, if there is no one who comes with ill intent or as a deceiver or a harmful accuser, then leave the bearers of the Qur’an and …”
The Effect of Hirz Abu Dujana
The amulet was written and given to Abu Dujana Ansari. He placed it in the center of his house. Then, a creature spoke to Abu Dujana, saying, “I swear by the One who revealed the verse “قم فأنذر” to Muhammad (s.a.w.), you have burned us.”
The following morning, Abu Dujana shared the story with the Prophet. The Prophet instructed him, “Take the amulet and place it in a box. If the creature returns, put the amulet back in the house.”
Following these events, Abu Dujana said, “I swear to God, I never saw any fear for my family or child again, and that creature did not return. The Prophet passed away, and there was no further need to complain.”
